Chinese New Year 2027: Date, Fire Goat and Solar Calendar

Updated on
Written by Traits de vous

Have you seen both 4 February and 6 February given for Chinese New Year 2027? Both dates have their place. The Lunar New Year celebration falls on 6 February 2027. Saju at Traits de vous changes year at the start of solar spring, Lichun, on 4 February. Two legitimate conventions, for two different purposes.

1. In your diary: 6 February 2027

For the celebration, remember 6 February. Hong Kong’s Labour Department lists it as the first day of Lunar New Year in its official public holiday calendar.

This celebration follows a lunisolar calendar. “Lunar New Year” names its change of year.

1 January begins the civil year. Your diary, the celebration and the Saju chart each have their own start of year.

2. Fire Goat: what does the name mean?

The traditional name for 2027 is 丁未, transcribed as Ding-wei. It combines the Goat with Fire. “Fire Goat” brings these two references together in a simple phrase.

In 2026, it is 丙午, Bing-wu: the Fire Horse. The element remains Fire; the animal changes.

This name is a label of the traditional calendar. Its beginning depends on the convention chosen: lunar or solar.

The year’s element also has its own place in a personal chart. Your core element is a different reference point. The reading explains the role of each, beyond the name of the yearly animal.

3. For Saju: Lichun, 4 February

Saju at Traits de vous changes year at Lichun, the start of solar spring. The Hong Kong Observatory places it on 4 February 2027. Our engine uses the transition at 01:46 UTC, or 02:46 in Paris, to the stated minute.

Two year changes in February 2027On 4 February, Saju’s solar year changes. On 6 February, Lunar New Year begins. Between these dates, the two conventions can give different animals.4 February6 FebruaryLichunSolar referenceLunarNew Year
Two distinct reference points. This timeline shows the dates; the hours are not drawn to scale.

The official table gives the date; the precise time comes from our engine. On the day of the transition, the time and time zone make the result more precise.

The celebration remains on 6 February; Saju’s calculation changes year on the 4th. Two pages in the same diary, for different purposes.

4. Between the two dates, two possible animals

Imagine a birth on 5 February 2027 at 12 noon in Paris. Under Saju at Traits de vous, the transition on 4 February has already happened: the yearly animal is the Goat. Under the lunar convention, 6 February is still ahead: it is the Horse.

This fictitious example explains the two answers. To compare, look for the convention behind the mention "Chinese sign".

For a birth on the day of Lichun itself, the time may become necessary. If you don’t know it, indicate this in the process that offers that option. The calculation can then take its absence into account.

Keep these to hand: 1 January for the civil year, 4 February for the Saju solar transition, and 6 February for Lunar New Year. For another year, check the dates in the corresponding table.

5. Where does your chart fit into this?

The official sources at the bottom of the page allow you to check these dates directly and free of charge.

To explore your birth reference points, you can start with the free Saju identity chart. It follows the solar convention of Traits de vous. The yearly animal is an introduction, alongside other reference points.

These are symbols and words to explore, not a prediction of what will happen in 2027. You can read them, talk about them and keep what gives you something to think about.
